Art Mentorship Cohort 2023 Application

Apply Here

Open to creators of all kinds! Are you a visual artist, sculptor, muralist, painter, sketch artist, graphic artist, fabric artist, or writer? Looking for a mentor who will encourage you, push you, and celebrate you for who you are? Trying to figure out next steps for your schooling or potential art career? Looking to expand your social justice views and infuse them in your art? Looking to build your skills while building your community?

The ScenicG Mentorship Cohort creates that opportunity. A place for you to learn, grow and develop yourself as an artist, in whatever way you choose. Located on the stolen lands of the Latgawa, Takelma, Shasta, and Modoc peoples in Talent and led by Gabriel Barrera, the cohort is a one-year art mentorship program for early career Southern Oregon artists who identify as BIPOC, ages 18 and up.

Cohort artists will gain confidence, build upon creative strengths, harness new skills, learn creative practice methods and techniques. In addition to being mentored by Gabriel, participants will also learn from guest artists from different creative disciplines, go on field trips, and participate in ScenicG workshops and events. Monthly gatherings will involve topics on social justice, identity and social constructs. Mentees will learn from each other, build trust, solidarity, fellowship and friendship within their cohort.

At the end of the year, mentees will produce a final art exhibition that will present their abilities, skills and aesthetic as newly transformed artists. The final art exhibit will be held either at ScenicG studio or in another venue where the public will view and celebrate the cohort’s accomplishments. Four applicants will be accepted into the program. Each mentee will receive:

  • Stipend of $1,500

  • iPad with Apple Pencil and Procreate

  • Mentoring sessions with Guest Artists as well as ScenicG

  • Final showcase

  • All materials and supplies included
